Research Centre B-WARE

B-WARE focusses on solving both fundamental and applied questions relating to chemical and environmental processes that are fundamental for water quality, water management and the functioning of ecosystems.

Lab experiments

The combination of field research and laboratory experiments under controlled conditions in the lab makes it possible to get more insight in, for example, key processes driving water quality.

Field experiments

Small-scale field experiments are used to investigate, for example, the effects of a change in surface water composition on wetland functioning and biodiversity. These types of experiments are very valuable to determine the effectiveness of potential restoration measures for water and nature management.

Experimental restoration measures

At experimental scale, the effectiveness of measures such as topsoil removal, liming and application of species-rich hay can be assessed, e.g. for the restoration of semi-natural grasslands.

Effects of atmospheric nitrogen deposition on ecosystems

B-WARE has a long experience in applied research on the effects of atmospheric nitrogen deposition on sensitive habitat types.

Nature development on former agricultural land

B-WARE has a wide experience in the restoration and development of species-rich nature on former agricultural lands.
